L’Estat vol pactar un nou límit de dèficit a Brussel·les

After the impact of the Islamist terror attack and evaluating the enormous efforts made by the Mossos d'Esquadra [the Catalan police force], after returning the bodies of the victims to their families and taking care of the wounded, of appreciating the solidarity shown by members of the public and the Spanish and Catalan governments’ joint public appearance, after seeing the wisdom of having a demonstration led by the protagonists and not by politicians ... After all this, when the tension drops, the time will come to take stock and act accordingly. To speak of how quickly the basest instincts proliferate on social media, of the tolerance of violence by many of those who surround us, of the speed with which certain youngsters who were apparently integrated into our society were brainwashed, of how nervous some people get when Catalan is spoken, especially if the speaker is from Santa Coloma de Gramenet.

We will have to condemn the consequences of the lack of institutional loyalty shown by the Spanish government. We will have to denounce that Spain’s deputy prime minister will not guarantee the Mossos’ access to Europol, even though it is her government’s decision. We will also have to get to the bottom of the truth behind the imam, who was declared a legal alien once he was released from prison.

The public will have time to evaluate who has done their job, who treated them as adults, who has disappeared, who has shown their wickedness. Such as the Spanish authorities (with the help of a priest) and their spokespeople, who have tried to make political capital out of a tragedy. As one of them admitted off the record, "the unity of Spain is above the truth".
