Using the army damages the Spain brand

You didn’t need to be an expert in the Catalan process to know that sooner or later the Spanish government would press the “army” button. But even though it was predictable, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t serious. Very serious. It represents the highest level reached so far in the panic-mongering strategy in Catalonia, and an example of Spanish muscle flexing (remember that there will be general elections in December).

This is a government that spends all day warning that political instability has economic costs, both in the markets and with investors, but then it goes and tells the world that a political problem could be solved with tanks. Isn’t the European Union going to say anything?

They used the Constitutional Court and now they are using the armed forces. Meanwhile, on Tuesday Rajoy attended a Volkswagen event in Martorell. It’s called assembly line work: you scare them first and then I’ll play the statesman.
